The banks and lawyers are business people and they will take any advantage of anyone, including the less fortunate, for their own gain. The number 2 response is someone trying to justify a wrong decision by a judge who refused to follow the law. By the way, Sherrod was probably misquoted and subsequently a story was retracted - here it appears that a judge favored banks and lawyers on an ad hoc basis. Pat's logic is hard to follow.

The Sheriff has been serving process in Cook County since the 1850's. That when the law under question was enacted. All it took was for twelve or so tax payer financed banks to file cases in the Chancery Division to change 160 years of established law.

Did you pay attention to the Sherrod story last week. The banks and lawyers are business people. The last thing they want is to spend the money to prosecute a foreclosure and find out the owner was never served. If the sheriff's office was as efficient as they suggest in the article, the process servers would be out of work. Perhaps before writing an article, you should use some common sense.

As a process server for many years, I can say that I follow the law and have never lied on an affidavit. Yes there are a few bad apples in any group, but I think the sherrifs have enough to do than deal with service of process. I am licensed by the state and know that my license can be revoked if I break the law. I have never broken the law in my personal life, I certainly wont break the law for a $30 serve.
