James Warren, former managing editor and Washington bureau chief of the Chicago Tribune, recently stepped in as president and publisher of the Chicago Reader. The veteran journalist is a political analyst for MSNBC and a correspondent for the Atlantic Monthly’s Web site. Since 1979 he has written a column “On Magazines,” now based at The Huffington Post. Warren also writes for The Daily Beast.
Warren came to Chicago in 1977, joining the financial section of the Chicago Sun-Times, where he worked as a business reporter, a general assignment reporter, a legal affairs reporter and a labor reporter. In 1984, he moved to the Chicago Tribune as its labor and legal affairs writer. He later became the paper’s media writer and editor of its Tempo lifestyle section.
