Dan Mihalopoulos, Staff Writer, City Hall
Dan Mihalopoulos, who has covered City Hall for the Chicago Tribune since 2003, will continue to work that beat at the Chicago News Cooperative.
Reporting on the administration of Chicago Mayor Richard Daley, Mihalopoulos has uncovered corruption and exposed how money and power often work against the general public. He was a lead reporter on the Tribune’s 2008 “Neighborhoods for Sale” series. The coverage won the Chicago Headline Club’s Watchdog Award and was a finalist for national awards from Investigative Reporters and Editors and the American Society of News Editors. His coverage of political hiring fraud in the Daley administration culminated in the corruption trials of the mayor’s patronage chief and Streets and Sanitation commissioner.
Mihalopoulos also covered the 9/11 terrorist attacks in New York, the 2004 Summer Olympics in Athens, and the arrest of the Brown’s Chicken murderers in Palatine, Ill. Before joining the Tribune, he was a metropolitan reporter for the St. Louis Post-Dispatch from 1996 to 1999.
