Quigley: ‘I Don’t Think They All Turn to Rahm’

Congressman Mike Quigley doesn’t think all eyes will turn to White House Chief of Staff Rahm Emanuel to succeed Mayor Richard M. Daley.

“I don’t think they all turn to Rahm,” the North Side representative told the Chicago News Cooperative Tuesday. “I think they turn to a lot of different people.”

Like most people, Quigley said he expected Daley to run for a seventh term in 2011.

“My most recent conversation with the mayor led me to believe he was running again,” Quigley said, referring to a conversation with Daley around August 17th. “He seemed to be all in. He wasn’t talking about the campaign but about the city. He was talking about what we needed to do at O’Hare, what we needed to do in my district. He was very focused, so that is why this came as a surprise.

“We have to remind ourselves that the city is always much bigger than one person and we need to pull together and move on. We are facing extraordinarily difficult economic times and that is what we have to focus on is keeping city stronger in challenging times.”
