Jurors Get Head Start in Next Blago Trial

The next jury in Rod Blagojevich‘s political corruption trial will get a 24-hour head start to hide from the swarms of media.

U.S. Circuit Court Judge James Zagel announced Friday that for the ex-governor’s retrial, jurors’ names will not be released for a full day after the verdict. Zagel made that clear in a status hearing Wednesday afternoon.

Blagojevich’s attorneys Sheldon Sorosky and Aaron Goldstein represented the defendant. Lawyers Sam Adam Sr. and Sam Adam Jr. were not present.

Sorosky said nothing had been decided about Blagojevich’s representation in his retrial.

Zagel provided a Nov. 1 deadline for objections to be filed by interveners – such as media organizations – in the case, after which they will be denied.

The judge also said that prosecutors had until Nov. 15 to let the defense know if they planned any “fundamental modifications” in their case.

The next status hearing is slated for Oct. 1.
