Members of the City Council’s black caucus met Wednesday afternoon to discuss how they could attempt to influence the contest to replace retiring Mayor Richard M. Daley in 2011.
After the council meeting ended, most of the 19 African-American aldermen attended the caucus meeting but no names of potential candidates were discussed, said Ald. Howard Brookins (21st Ward).
Brookins said the black aldermen agreed to draw up criteria for a candidate that they could support but put off further discussion until after Friday’s session of Democratic committeemen.
Like their white and Latino colleagues on the council, most black aldermen have solidly supported Daley’s agenda for all of his nearly 21 years in office.
