Tony Majeri
Tony Majeri, who led redesigns of the Chicago Tribune for 38 years, is a design consultant for the Chicago News Cooperative. He developed the Tribune’s first graphics department and shaped the online presence of the paper’s Classified Ventures, including Cars.com, CareerBuilder and other marketplaces.
Tony also led the teams that built the Tribune’s CD-ROMs for “When America Saw Evil,” about the events of 9/11, and “Be Not Afraid,” a biography of Pope John Paul II. He left the paper in 2005 as senior editor for innovation, working on new product initiatives for the Tribune Company.
A member of three Pulitzer Prize-winning teams at the Tribune, Tony has received more than 100 design awards, including several Gold Medals and a Lifetime Achievement Award from the Society of News Design. In 2006 the society presented him with its Presidents Award for his work in creating the first Ethics Standards Code for visual journalists. The National Scholastic Press Association presented him with a Media Citation for his work with high school journalists. Ball State University honored him by creating the Anton Majeri Award for innovation and leadership in graphic journalism.
