The Chicago News Cooperative produces public-interest journalism focused on Chicago, its politics, policy, culture and the arts, and the diverse communities of the metropolitan area. In an era of widespread news industry retrenchment, CNC’s mission is to provide a new source of fast-paced but disciplined reporting in depth.
Our work reaches the public through several different platforms. Our centerpiece is this website, which was redesigned in early 2011 in collaboration with Downtown Partners Chicago and Mainline Studios.
We publish a section in Chicago editions of The New York Times on Friday and Sunday, the first outside news organization to produce entire pages for the Times.
Our work has been broadcast by our partners, WTTW-Channel 11, Chicago public television, and WBEZ, Chicago public radio, and by other local television stations.
Launched in late October of 2009, CNC is headed by James O’Shea, the former managing editor of the Chicago Tribune and editor of the Los Angeles Times. CNC is non-profit and non-partisan.
